Corrections

If a figure or a rule on this site looks wrong, send the page and what you believe the correct answer is. We check it against the primary source and fix confirmed errors promptly.

What we cannot do

We cannot look up your earnings record, tell you what your benefit will be, advise on your personal claiming decision, or intervene with the Social Security Administration. We are a publisher, not a benefits office.

Where to get answers faster

Your my Social Security account at SSA.gov. It shows your real earnings record and your estimated benefit at 62, at full retirement age and at 70. That is better than any estimate on any website, including ours, and our calculator is built to take it as input.

Social Security directly. For anything about your own claim, an appeal, or a survivor application, SSA is the only authority. Survivor benefits in particular generally cannot be applied for online.

A financial advisor, before you file. Our calculator shows what each age pays. It cannot see your savings, your tax picture, or your spouse's record together, and those can change the answer.

Suggestions

If there is a question we have not answered, or a tool you wish existed, tell us. What readers ask about is the main thing that decides what we build next.
